Begin Learning the Basics of Yoga

Yoga isn’t limited to specific locations or environmental conditions. In  a perfect world, however, it is best to do yoga in a temperate location where you can be focused. You don’t have to be alone, but you should be able to minimize distractions, sounds and intrusions. Your exercise surface should be smooth and level.

Ideally, you should be in bare feet when you practice yoga. This serves two purposes; one is so you won’t slip when doing the standing poses and the second is to allow you to fully articulate your feet during the exercises. If you are practicing yoga on a cold floor, then socks are fine. No special clothing is required, as long as what you’re wearing is warm, allows for maximum movement and is comfortable. Keep a sweater or extra layer close, in case you get cold. Really loose or bulky clothing will get in the way of your practice as will long hair, so we suggest tying it back.  

A word of advice. If you can’t create an ideal environment, don’t worry about it. You can do yoga anywhere. You’ll find your own creative ways to fit yoga into your lifestyle.
